Abstract

Nizami Ganjavi was a great Masnavi writer of the 6th century (AH.) and one of the founders of Persian poetic fiction. One of the attractions of Nizami’s Masnavi is blessing, litany, and ascensions that are seen in the beginning of each of his verses, which have been highly regarded by his followers due to their beauty and unutterable imagination. The current paper intends to make a comparative study of Nizami’s Khamsa (or five poems) and three Arabic ascensions before it; i.e. Kitab al-Maeraj of Qashiri, Maeraj al Nabi of Ibn Abbas and Al Isra’a va al Maeraj of Ibn Hajar Esghalani and Sayouti that have shown similarities and differences in structure and content. Hence, it is concluded that in spite of distinguishing features, Nizami has been much influenced by the aforementioned works in performing his ascensions. To this end, the literature of Nizami was matched with the evidences acquired from the above ascensions so that similarities become more apparent and obvious.

Abstract

The control of bacterial diseases of fish has always been one of the most important problems of aquaculteriets in recent years. One of these problems is bacterial resistance. Using antibiotics can cause problems for consumers. Therefore, the use of new antimicrobial agents with minimal complications is common. In the present study, using the acid-thermal method, the bentonite structure was modified and the chitosan and bentonite hybrids were modified in the stage of development. The structure of the compounds was studied using the Infrared Fourier Transform Spectrometry (FTIR), Surface Electron Scanning Microscopy (FE-SEM) and X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (EDX). Antimicrobial activity of two types of modified bentonite on gram negative bacterium Aeromonas hydrophila was studied in vitro using two methods of disk diffusion and microdilution. The results of the disc diffusion method showed that the antimicrobial compounds produced had antibacterial properties in experimental conditions against the Aeromonas hydrophilia bacteria. Antimicrobial activity (MIC and MBC) was determined using microdilution and clonal counting in Agar culture medium. The results showed that the modified compound with the acidic method had MBC of 28.57 and 14.28 mg / L for Aeromonas hydrophila bacteria in 10 minutes and 30 minutes. For chitosan and modified bentonite composite, MBC was 14.28 mg / ml for Aeromonas hydrophila bacteria in 10 and 30 minutes. The results of this study showed that modified bentonite and composite compounds have strong antimicrobial effects and can remove pathogens in laboratory conditions and can be used as new compounds to control pathogens in breeding systems.

Abstract

Infective endocarditis (IE) is a rare but serious disease with different clinical pictures. Its neurological complication is commonly mistaken in term of diagnosis and treatment. Therefore, such cases must be taken under further diagnostic imaging for searching the basic structural lesions. Known causes of these signs include cardio embolism with hemorrhagic transformation, septic embolism, or mycotic aneurysms. In this paper, our case was a patient admitted for the evaluation of local neurological complaint reason and subsequent therapy. He was found to have bacterial endocarditis after medical workup. It was diagnosed prospectively from positive tests of vegetation on Transesophageal echocardiogram and Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) results.

Abstract

Aims: Many infectious diseases had traditionally been cured with herbal medicines. Antimicrobial agents are often produced synthetically to increase the food durability and quality. The purpose of this study was to determine the antimicrobial properties of the aqueous and alcoholic extracts of Allium schoenoprasum.
Materials & Methods: In this experimental study, after preparation Allium schoenoprasum samples, aqueous and alcoholic extracts were prepared and their minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was determined against Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, Escherichia coli and Vibrio cholerae by micro broth dilution method. Erythromycin was used as the control.
Findings: The MIC of alcoholic and aqueous extracts of A. schoenoprasum was 16-256 and 32->256µg/ml, respectively and MBC of them were 32-256 and 64->256ug/ml, respectively. The A. schoenoprasum exhibited higher activity against S. aureus and B. cereus strains.
Conclusion: The extracts of A. schoenoprasum have antimicrobial effect on S. aureus, B. cereus, E. coli and V. cholerae strains in micro broth dilution method.

Abstract

Aims: Infections by extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) and carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE) are increasing problems in pediatrics and are usually associated with higher hospital costs and mortality rates. The aims of this study were the statistical investigation of the worldwide prevalence and risk factors of ESBL and CPE family members among pediatric population.
Instruments and Methods: From October 1, 1995 to July 27, 2017, some keywords including “ESBLs”, “carbapenemase”, “pediatrics”, “children”, and “risk factor” were searched in the searching databases such as Google Scholar, Embase, Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science among original research articles. The univariate and multivariate analysis of the collected data was performed by Graph Pad Prism 6.1 software.
Findings: The mean percentage of ESBL production was 20.23±22.31 and the mean percentage of CPE was 1.81±2.77. E. coli (n=991) and K. pneumonia (n=627) were the predominant ESBL-producers. Nephrology (n=5005) and NICU (n=1805) were predominant hospital wards. ESBL-PE had significantly higher prevalence in the infants unit (OR=0.9832, 95% CI=12.271-19.519; p<0.001). Moreover, ICU ward was a significant and independent risk factor for CPE acquisition (OR=0.849, 95% CI=2.211-5.415; p=0.0035). ESBL-PE and CPE were significantly isolated from blood samples (OR=0.9276, 95% CI=1.508-2.433, p<0.0001) and fecal specimens (OR=0.968, 95% CI=2.829-5.133, p<0.0001), respectively.
Conclusion: Most of risk factors between ESBL-PE and CPE are similar including previous hospitalization and prolonged use of antibiotics, cephalosporins, and previous colonization. Other possible potential risk factors that should be considered include presence of catheters and travel history. Detection of risk factors provides useful information for formulation of infection control policy.

Abstract

The effect of temperature on demographic parameters of the greater wax moth, Galleria mellonella (L.) was studied at 23, 25, 27, and 30 °C, 50 ± 10% RH and a photoperiod of 16:8 (L: D) h. The life table parameters were estimated according to the age-stage, two-sex life table procedure. In addition, the bootstrap technique was employed for estimating the means, variances, and standard errors of the population parameters at all studied temperatures. All estimated parameters were affected considerably by temperature. Among examined temperatures, the highest values of net reproductive rate (R0), intrinsic rate of increase (rm) and finite rate of increase (λ) were 223.04 egg, 0.096 day-1, and 1.101day-1, respectively at 27 °C. The lowest mean generation time was 50.31 day at 30 °C. Moreover, the highest reproductive value was observed at 27 °C. According to the results, temperature can affect all life table parameters of G. mellonella, and according to our investigation, 27 °C is the best temperature for its mass rearing in laboratory condition among the evaluated temperatures.

Abstract

Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici (Fol) is the causal agent of vascular wilt in tomato, an important plant disease in Iran. Four monogenic resistance genes in tomato are used for identification of races of Fol and their corresponding avirulence genes Avr1, Avr2 and Avr3 were identified in pathogen one of which, Avr2, is f.sp. specific. Hence they can serve as reliable markers for racial identity and f.sp discrimination. These markers have been used for strains from other countries except Iran. Furthermore, a point mutation in Avr3 can lead to enhanced virulence of Fol on a susceptible tomato cultivar. To identify forma specialis and racial identity, Avr genes were studied in a collection of Iranian strains. Results revealed that PCR assay is very efficient in distinguishing between non-pathogenic and low virulence strains and in the vast majority of strains, avirulence genotype was consistent with Fol race1. Furthermore, to determine whether allelic variation of Avr3 could separate strains of different degrees of virulence, Avr3 wassequenced in Fol strains with high and low virulence. The resultsrevealed that allelicvariation of Avr3 was not correlated with degree of virulence in Iranian strains.

Abstract

Aim: The effects of potassium silicate nanoparticles (PSN) and effective microorganisms (EM) were studied on the growth of alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) and sainfoin (Onobrychis sativa Lam.) and soil.
Materials & Methods: Split-split plot in a complete randomized block design with three replications was used for this experiment. Planting time in two seasons (autumn and spring) as the main plot, facilitators in five levels, including control, PSN (500 and 1000mg/lit), and EM (1 and 2%), as sub-plots and two legume species as sub-sub plot were studied in the field. In the four-leaf step of plants, PSN and EM were added in three steps as a solution.
Findings: The highest amount of plant viability (80, 82.22%), height (59, 68.33cm), basal diameter (13.33, 16.66cm), canopy cover (993.33, 1242.66cm2), leaf area index (67.79, 84.93cm2), relative water content (70.46, 88.32%), chlorophyll (0.87, 0.72mg.g-1), photosynthesis rate (27.29, 28.49µmolco2.cm-2s-1), number of inflorescence (57.33, 56N/m2) and 1000-grain weight (33.30, 3.89g.m-2) were in sainfoin (EM2%) and alfalfa (PSN1000mg/lit), respectively. Total biomass (423.87 and 374.50g.m-2) was maximum in PSN1000mg/lit for both species. EM and PSN caused desirable effects on the soil characters of species substrates (p<0.01). The maximum value of all studied soil characters belonged to PSN1000. Additionally, autumn sowing compared to spring planting enhanced the studied traits of planted species and their substrate soil.            
Conclusion: The usage of appropriate PSN and EM concentration in this study to restore dry-farming lands and improve species growth and forage yield can be suggested.

Abstract

Background: This study aimed to compare the diagnostic efficacy of standard culture method with multiplex quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) in examining cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples collected from patients with suspected meningitis.
Materials & Methods: A retrospective evaluation was conducted on 166 patients with suspected meningitis, who were treated in Vali-Asr hospital in Birjand, Iran between 2011 and 2020. Diagnosis of bacterial meningitis was based on CSF culture and multiplex qPCR results.
Findings: Among 166 patients, conventional methods identified causative pathogens in only 10.3% of cases, while multiplex qPCR detected pathogens in eight out of 25 culture-negative cases as well. The most common pathogens identified were enterovirus, Epstein-Barr virus, herpes simplex, Haemophilus influenzae, and Streptococcus pneumoniae.
Conclusion: Multiplex qPCR appears to be a more effective method than conventional culture in identifying bacterial and viral pathogens that most commonly cause meningitis. The incorporation of qPCR as a routine diagnostic method for meningitis in clinical practice could significantly enhance clinical decision-making and patient care.

Abstract

Background: Gastroenteritis is the second leading cause of death worldwide, with a high prevalence in children. Among pathogenic microorganisms, viruses are one of the main causes of this disease. Thus, the aim of this research was to investigate the prevalence of diarrhea caused by human adenovirus (HAdV), Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), and cytomegalovirus (CMV) in children with hematological diseases for the first time in Iran.
Materials & Methods: This study was conducted on 120 stool samples stored in the clinical sample bank of the Cellular and Molecular Research Center of Qom University of Medical Sciences. These samples were obtained from immunocompromised children with gastrointestinal symptoms, who referred to one of the children's hospitals in Qom during 2018 to 2019. Genomes were extracted from the stool samples and evaluated using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method.
Findings: The prevalence of HAdV and EBV was reported in seven (5.8%) and one (0.8%) cases, respectively, and CMV was detected in none of the samples. No cases of co-infection were observed.
Conclusion: This study results show that there are diarrhea-causing viruses among patients in the study area. Fortunately, the prevalence of these infectious agents in patients with underlying conditions was relatively low. However, monitoring of these viruses in the feces of all patients, especially immunocompromised patients, is recommended.

Abstract

The significance of mangrove species in the world is undeniable and planting artificial mangrove forests is a desirable solution to preserve mangroves. The mangroves provide us with superior ecological services and one of their main services is the bioremediation of heavy metals. Hence, this study aimed to assess the effects of artificial mangroves of Velayat Park of Bandar Abbas on the contamination, adsorption pattern and ecological risk of heavy metals in the sediment samples. Thirty samples were collected from two paralleled sampling sections included those without mangroves and containing mangroves. Each sampling area consisted of upper, middle and lower sections. After drying samples using an oven, the dried sediments were sieved by a 63-micrometer sieve and digested by nitric and hydrochloric acid mixture. The concentration of As, Cu, Fe, Ni, Pb, V, and Zn was determined using ICP. The studied factors suggested a high level of ecological risk for as and Pb and the highest risk was observed in the samples without mangroves and a lower risk was reported for samples containing mangroves. Comparing the results with sediment quality guidelines and other studies indicated a dangerous concentration of As. Pearson correlation coefficient values exhibited that artificial mangroves have significantly affected the adsorption pattern of heavy metals (p-Value < 0.05). The principal component analysis (PCA) showed that As and Pb are dominantly derived from oil products leakages and industrial sewages while Cu, Fe, Ni, V and Zn are predominantly derived from natural and geological sources.

Abstract

Structuralism is one of the most important areas of the modern literary theory, which has contributed to the creation of new subjects, the evaluation of similarities and differences, and the possibility of the analysis of the Persian literary texts based on standard universal models. Recently, Western literary theories have been increasingly used in the analysis of many literary research studies in Iran, aiming to shed some light into the hidden aspect of literary works and provide new insights. And few studies have ever not used structural and morphological approaches in their literary analysis. Based on a review of the Persian literary morphological studies conducted in different decades, the present study aimed to analyze the growth of them qualitatively and quantitatively and also to analyze their literary genres. Further, it investigated the degree to which Propp’s morphology theory has been used in a standard scientific way in these texts. Finally it was concluded that the inappropriate and mechanistic applications of Propp’s morphology theory in the Persian literary texts have led to inappropriate theory selection, simplification story elements, disregarding the goal and context of the theory, repetition of the method, poor introduction, and unrelated conclusion.

Abstract

Cultural Semiotics, concerned with revealing the processes of meaning formation and identifying inherent values and norms in texts, was established by Yuri Lotman (1922-1993). This approach to text analysis, by focusing on the interrelation of different semiospheres, provides a new possibility to analyze cultural events to identify the means of text production in a specific semiosphere. Mythological-theological texts appear to be significant cultural sources for such an analysis and therefore Avesta, as a mythological-theological text, was selected for the current study. This paper has focused on Jamshid and attempted to study the delegitimization process of Mithraism and legitimization process of Zoroastrianism. Jamshid was studied in the binary of Self and Other and he was viewed as a god in Mithraism who, by the depreciation of vedic ideas and the influence of Zoroastrian semiosphere, had obtained a sinful character. Sinfulness of Jamshid was explored here by analyzing his introduction to the new semiosphere, the rejection of Other and the emphasis of Self culture (Zoroastrianism).

Abstract

This study was conducted to examine learners’ attitudes and perceptions toward the efficacy of task repetition: whether or not they appreciated task repetition as an effective classroom strategy for enhancing their oral performance. To this end, a multiple case study approach was adopted in which six intermediate English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners were investigated over a four-month period in an intact class. Four data collection tools were used: (1) multiple interview sessions, (2) learner diaries, (3) participant observation, and (4) classroom portfolios. In addition, 20 hours of the learners’ audio-recorded task performances across sessions were transcribed and analyzed for signs of improvements in qualities of oral performance. Results indicated that despite the fact that repeating reciprocal narrative tasks led to gains in oral performance, learners viewed task repetition as a futile activity that did not affect their performances over time. The findings are discussed, and implications are provided in the context of education.

Abstract

Numerical and experimental models have been developed to investigate the effect of implementing in-line and staggered arrangement of dimple on heat transfer augmentation and pressure drop of the air flow through a multilouvered fin bank. Three-dimensional simulations of single row of louvers have been conducted for aforementioned geometry. Simulations are performed for different Reynolds number. The simulation revealed that heat transfer and temperature augmentations occur due to existence of a circulation region created by dimple. Additionally, continuous temperature gradients have been observed over the louver surface with the highest temperature at the base of the louver and the lowest temperature at the middle of the louver. Besides, the difference between these two points is more obvious in higher Reynolds numbers, especially in the first louvers. Fin efficiency and fin effectiveness have been calculated to assess the louver performance. The air-side performance of heat exchanger is evaluated by calculating Colburn j factor and Fanning friction f factor. Results show that implementing dimples on the louver surface increase j factor and f factor. The present results indicated the staggered arrangement, in comparison with in-line arrangement, could effectively enhance the heat transfer performance. The results show that both fin bank performance and louver effectiveness will be increased against an acceptable increase in pressure drop.

Introduction: resident’s empowerment in a tourism region is essential to ensure the success and development of sustainable tourism. Empowerment can affect people's attitudes toward the positive and negative impacts of tourism. In addition, studies suggest that residents are more willing to support tourism development if its impacts are perceived to carry greater benefits than costs. Hence, empowerment is expected to be able to support the development of tourism. this study aims to investigate if empowerment could affect their attitudes toward tourism impacts and support of tourism development.
Methodology: This study is an applied research and with the survey method was conducted. The study population consisted of residents of Kamardough tourism region. The sample size was determined using the Morgan table (n=220). Using a random sampling method, 220 students were selected for this study. The face validity of the questionnaire was confirmed by a panel of experts. Cronbach alpha reliability coefficients were calculated for the pilot study and used to refine the questions for the final questionnaire. All scales indicated good-to-excellent reliabilit generally 0.71–0.91.
Results and discussion: Regression showed that Personal economic benefit and three empowerment dimensions (psychological, social and political) had direct and significant relationships with resident perceptions of tourism’s positive impacts. These variables predicted 51% of the variance in attitude toward positive impacts. Personal economic benefit and political empowerment have significant effect on attitude toward negative impacts of tourism. There is a negative relationship between political empowerment and perceived negative impacts from tourism. These variables predicted only 0/28 of the attitudes toward negative impacts. the Regression showed that psychological empowerment, social empowerment and political empowerment and attitudes toward positive impacts of tourism affect residents’ support for tourism. These variables predicted 47% of the variance in support.
Conclusion: These findings also have practical implications for those within the tourism industry looking for strategies to increase their residents’ support for and attitudes toward tourism development.

Abstract

the lack of knowledge behind the identification of factors affecting the formation of the appropriate composition of distribution channels and the resulting results, has led the researcher to formulate and expand knowledge in this field of marketing in the form of academic studies. For this purpose, using a qualitative research method based on data-foundation theory, by interviewing 16 experts and specialists in the field of distribution channels, a conceptual model was designed in this field. The findings of this qualitative study show that causal factors influencing the composition of distribution channels can lead to financial results such as: reducing costs (reducing marketing costs, reducing operating costs, etc.) and increasing revenue and share. Market (increase in catalytic sales, increase in potential income and consumption, increase in profit margins, and increase in the level of coverage, etc.). The results showed that causal factors influencing the formation of distribution channel combinations include market context (target market, market access and market map) and distribution channel chain (analysis of current channel chain, direct and indirect channel composition, channel proposal). Alternative, channel reorganization). Modifiers in the process of shaping the composition of distribution channels include: sales complexity and market responsibility and underlying factors include the company's promotion policies (traction and compression promotion policies) and channel composition shaping strategies. Distribution lines include: alignment of distribution channels, customer lifecycle management, ease of use of the channel, willingness to repurchase, customer satisfaction and customer trust.

Abstract

Salt-man No.4 is the 4th natural mummy discovered in the archeological excavation in Chehr-Abad salt mine located in the western Iranian city of Zanjan in 2005. The mummy was a complete body, fully clothed and with leather boots, a silver earring and a few gadgets such as a metallic knife, ceramic pots and an oil lamp. Radiocarbon dating revealed that the mummy dates back to Achaemenid era 330-550 B.C. Total coverage and clothing as well as anatomy of the mummy including its forearm, delicate fingers and lack of beard and mustache raised some questions about its gender. In the light of the physical status of the mummy at its burial time, the other question was the cause of its death. It was necessary to get information about physical conditions and the severity of the damage incurred to the mummy in order to take conservation and preservation measures. X-Ray radiography and CT scan revealed the gender of the mummy as being a 15 to 16-year-old boy who had died as a result of crushing caused by the collapse of heavy stones at the mine that buried him underneath. The sudden death was caused by multiple bone fractures (trauma) and heart compression and rupture as a result of crushing falling stones.
