Abstract

Background: The kiss peptins and its receptor G protein coupled receptor (GPR54) or KISS1 receptor system are being described as key signaling molecules for reproductive function in animal models and humans. They play essential roles in regulation of the hypothalamic- pituitary- gonadal (HPG) axis and the onset of puberty and fertility. Objective: This study was performed to delineate the association of T305C (Leu 102 Pro) KISS1 receptor gene mutation with idiopathic female infertility in Iranian women. Methods: In this study, 140 healthy women with at least one child and no history of infertility and abortion and 130 idiopathic infertile women were recruited for this study.  By using allele specific PCR (AS-PCR) method, the allele and genotype frequencies among infertile and healthy women were determined. Results: The gene frequencies of the 305 T and C allele of the KISS1 receptor were 45% and 54% among infertile women and 50% and 50% among healthy controls, respectively. The distribution of genotype frequencies in the patients and controls was as follows: TT (Leu/Leu) was 15% and 0%, TC (Leu/Proline) was 60% and 100% and CC (Pro/Pro) was 24% and 0% respectively. Structural analysis was performed using the MedCalc program (version 12). Our results suggests that significant association were not observed in genotype (P=0.8) and allelic (P=0.6) distribution between cases and controls. Conclusions: The data presented show that mutant allele C  is not a risk factor for infertility, suggesting that the presence of KISS1 receptor T305C mutation is probably not associated with idiopathic female infertility in this population (P>0.05).

Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the performance of forage pea (Pisum sativum spp. arvense L.) genotypes, in terms of fresh forage yield and associated traits, when grown on the Kiziltepe Plain, Mardin, Turkey. Field trials were performed during the 2007-08 and 2009-2010 growing seasons. The experiments were arranged according to randomized block design with three replications. The following trait ranges were reported: Days to 50% flowering: 147.5-162.5 days, Natural plant height and Main Stem Height: 45.58-72.75 cm, Main stem height: 52.52-100.42 cm, Main stem numbers per plant: 1.275-1.658 stems plant-1, Main stem thickness: 2.913-3.703 mm, Fresh forage yield: 10.43-23.83 t ha-1 and Dry matter yield: 2.525-5.891 t ha-1. GGE (i.e., G+GE) biplot analysis showed that the two growing seasons were markedly different,stemming exclusively from differences in rainfall amounts between the two growing seasons. Results of this study showed that the lines 88P00-1-4-9-661 (1) and P101 (6), and cultivar Kirazli (9) were superior in terms of fresh forage yield, dry matter yield, natural plant height and days to 50% flowering traits. At the same time, PC2 scores of these genotypes were found near to zero, so, they were identified as stable genotypes for the investigated traits. In conclusion, in terms of forage yield, these three forage pea genotypes are recommended for the Kiziltepe Plain growing conditions.

Abstract

In this study, the antioxidant and antimicrobial effect of nano coating of basil gum with black cumin essential oil (Bunium persicum) was investigated in order to increase the shelf life of rainbow trout fillets. For this purpose, black cumin essential oil was prepared using Clevenger device and the antioxidant activity of different concentrations of it (200, 400, 600, 800 and 1000 ppm) was investigated. According to the results, black cumin essential oil has high antioxidant properties, and as the concentration increased, antioxidant properties were increased too. The cumin essential oil was then nanocapsulated with a basil gum coating. The nano coating, along with the essential oil (according to the electron microscope image), had a spherical and uniform surface with a low porosity percentage. Then, in order to investigate the effect of nano-coating with essential oil on the shelf life of rainbow trout fillet during a 16-day refrigeration period, 4 treatments including control and nano-coating with different concentrations of black cumin essential oil (1, 1.5 and 2 %) produced and periodic chemical parameters (peroxide, thiobarbiotic acid and volatile nitrogen bases) and microbial (total bacterial and total psychrotrophic count) were studied. The results of chemical and microbial analysis showed that, the nano-coating along with the essential oil slowed down the increasing process of oxidation and microbial indices compared to the control treatment. Until the end of the storage period, they had the allowed chemical and microbial range. Therefore, it seems that this treatment can be used as a natural antioxidant and antimicrobial in the meat and fisheries industry.
