Abstract: (111 Views)
Aims: Given the significance of preserving indigenous architectural identity in contemporary design, this study conducts a comparative analysis of vernacular and contemporary design patterns in extroverted housing in Sari. The main objective is to assess the extent to which contemporary design is influenced by vernacular architecture. It focuses on key criteria such as climatic adaptability, natural lighting, use of local materials, integration of modern technologies, and functional applicability. The study also examines how these elements align with contemporary needs and environmental priorities.
Methods: This research adopts an analytical-comparative approach, evaluating vernacular and contemporary architecture through field observations, selected case studies, and the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). Comparative analysis and weighted assessments are used to determine the influence of vernacular patterns on modern housing design.
Findings: The results show that vernacular architecture is strong in climatic responsiveness, use of local materials, and cultural identity. On the other hand, contemporary architecture emphasizes spatial flexibility, modern aesthetics, and functional efficiency. Integrating both approaches can optimize energy use, enhance comfort, and create sustainable and culturally responsive housing.
Conclusion: Contemporary housing can benefit significantly from vernacular principles when combined with modern technologies. Designers are encouraged to consider natural lighting, ventilation, energy efficiency, local materials, and cultural identity preservation as essential components of sustainable housing design.
